In Due Time (2026) by Concision

physically owned!
In Due Time album cover

Local SF Bay Area post-hardcore band Concision’s debut album. It’s really great! The vocals are beautiful, the drums are PUNCHY (and very impressively played), and the whole album feels exceptionally well produced for a band of this size.

They’ve been my favorite band since they released It’s Not Chivalry…It’s Suicide and Killingsworth under their previous name, The Jellyfish Method in early 2025.

This album is personally very meaningful to me. It came out a few weeks after I got broken up with (a relationship that lasted almost 1.5 years in high school). Which was a new experience for me! This REALLY helped me get through all of that, so thank you Concision, deeply, from the bottom of my heart <3

If you live in the Bay Area, I highly recommend seeing them play in person at a show, before they’re famous :) They often play in San Francisco, Oakland, and Berkeley.

Penrose

The Amen Break sample in the beginning is neat. I personally think the structure of the song is kind of weird and I don’t really love the “crowd screams”.

However, I really like the guitar riffs in the breakdown, and the vocal harmonies are great too. Speaking of, in the end of the song, when Holderby’s vocals and the guitar harmonize, it sounds SO GOOD!!!

The guitar feedback leading into the next song is also simple, yet a great transition.

It’s Not Chivalry…It’s Suicide

The most popular song from this album, for good reason. I’ve been listening to this song all the time for about a year and a half now, and I still get chills.

The guitar in the intro and between sections sounds super cool and is great at building tension. The drums sound just perfect. I literally can’t put into words how much I love how the snare and cymbals sound. You can really hear how skilled Ramona Iris is. The vocals also sound amazing, with great harmonies from Aidan’s screams. Additionally, if you listen closely (it’s easy to miss due to how well it harmonizes), the guitar sounds really great with the vocals.

My favorite aspect of this song is the timing, however. It is SO fast (195 BPM???), yet they somehow have no issue performing this song live. The tension that builds with the clean guitar and the part that goes:

“Hurting so bad, my stomach turns like it never has”

before the song literally feels like it explodes into:

“I could not believe…”

just sounds so incredible. The amount of hype in this song is just crazy.

Severed Ties And Shorter Lace (feat. Four Winds Away)

I love how the guitar in the intro/first verse sounds with this song too. It also sounds great when it switches to the normal distortion guitar.

THE CHORUS!!!!! IS SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, the brief rest before returning to the verse is really nice.

I really like the post-chorus (credited to Aidan Schultz), despite it not really being vocals. Just saying things that sound cool along with some nice guitar riffs. Right after, the bridge is easily my favorite part of this song. Harley’s slow, clean vocals in contrast to Aidan’s quick & rough screams, while they say the same things just sounds incredible. I always like to try to sing along with the screams (usually whispering lol).

Finally, the transition at the end, similar to Penrose, just works great.

My Last Fall

The tension that builds in the start of this track is really exciting. You can really hear how talented Holderby is with the high notes he’s hitting. I like the drop into the first verse. The pre-chorus:

“I’ll take you there…”

sounds very pretty, and I really like the vocalization that leads into the chorus. The chorus itself is great too. I also really really love the breakdown, especially the guitar and drum parts towards the end when it speeds up. Even more especially, when it slows back down and Aidan goes “LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUD”

GOOOOOOOOD. BYEEEE. FORRRRRRRRRRRRR. NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW……

score: 8.75

Killingsworth

The guitar in the intro is nice and simple, but has great energy. I love the harmony of the guitar and vocals before it goes into the verse. The drums are crazy in the verse, it’s awesome!

I absolutely love the pause with just simple guitar and drums (similar to Severed Ties And Shorter Lace) right before the chorus, which sounds just heavenly…

“Blow the smoke from one barrel, not two…”

“Shot… down my target now we’re through…”

I also like the “Like we do” parts in the second chorus a lot!

score: 10.00

Make It Hurt (feat. Four Winds Away & Dawg Fight)

This song is really interesting. I love the intro (I’m sensing a pattern here), as it builds a lot of great tension. However, I don’t really like the verses that much. I like the chorus a little more, especially the guitar and drums on the last line. But the breakdown? I need to start a new paragraph for this.

THE BREAKDOWN IS SO GOOD OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

I absolutely LOVE the silence broken by a (ride?) cymbal and then the fry screaming. That breakdown literally MAKES this song in my opinion. I also really like the sample (“I’ll send you straight to hell, fucker!”) and outro with the words being screamed.

score: 7.50

In Due Time

I like this track a lot. It’s really slow, and mostly very calm, yet it has so much energy. I feel like it’s very underrated on this album. The verses and pre-choruses are build so much tension, and the mood in the chorus and outro is so immense. You hear the chorus:

“Feed my untouched… (Un… touched… eyes…)”

and you like it, but then the song calms back down. Then, it builds up again with the outro, with twice the amount of energy as before. I absolutely love Harley’s vocalization after “The page and me” (the last line of the song). It feels like the whole song leads up to it, and it’s genuinely beautiful.

score: 9.00

Paper Cuts

Great guitar and drums, as usual. This song seems to be mostly sung by Aidan Schultz, rather than Harley Holderby, which is interesting and cool. It’s a bit too much screaming for me, but I do like hearing Aidan singing in the choruses! However, it definitely feels pretty different from the rest of the tracks on this album. It’s not a bad song by any means, it just doesn’t really feel like it fits in with the other songs by Concision.

score: 7.25

Born To Lose

Another calmer song like In Due Time. You can definitely hear the emo influences that reminisce from the band’s past as The Jellyfish Method.

I really like the acoustic guitar used here, it’s so calm and pretty. Surprisingly, it works really well with Ramona’s “metal-ly” drum kit.

After a bit over a minute (this is a really short song), the lyrics go:

“But you’re dragging me down…”

“Yeah you’re pulling me down…”

“Yanking me around…”

"…But I won’t to hit the ground!"

Followed by an OUTRAGEOUSLY beautiful electric guitar melody, and:

“But I’m too far from thinking about you… yes I do…”

IT’S SO PEAK. It brings a tear to my eye.

score: 9.50

Words Between Love And You

At last, the final track of this album. It’s really good. The instruments and vocals in the verses and pre-choruses are great. As usual, the vocals in the chorus parts go crazy and sound literally angelic.

I really like the post-chorus (“These lines that fall…”) and the bridge that leads back into another chorus to conclude the song.

This track is a solid ending to this album. While it honestly isn’t super notable compared to rest of the album, it’s still a great song.

score: 8.25
